Well, it may sound really weird to give this suggestion, but I must say that sometimes this is really the best thing to do in certain cases. I’m not talking about the usual Monday morning syndrome, or simply when you feel a bit “exhausted”. I’m talking about those days where everything seems impossible already from the first hours of the morning. The reason could be because you’ve not slept well, or you have had a fight with your important half, or for whatever reason are exploding of negative energy.

If this is the case, please just stay home. Why?

Because that shit is contagious. Not only does it spread like crazy in the workplace – it follows employees home and infects their personal lives.

You think a flu will affect your office’s productivity level. Try the a-hole in marketing who decided it was his mission to crap on anyone and everyone who comes close to his workspace. Oh it’s not them he’s angry with…but they are going to know how he feels.

Well, I don’t think I could have better described this situation. And as Julie points out correctly, the key issue here is the Ripple Effect these situations can produce. The issue is that the effects are wide-spreading, a lot more than when you are in a positive mood. And I believe that your boss and your colleagues will not mind not having you around in one of these “no-days” where all you can do is spread negativity around your organisation.

Of course, these events should not become a “habit” as this may become the sign of something more complex. But having a “No day” every now and then is perfectly normal. Also if you’re the boss.

So do us all a favour. And just stay home for once and relax.
